Consistency rules stop you from making most of your profit on one day. They’re one of the most common reasons traders are surprised by a delayed payout or a raised target. Very few firms have none at every stage, so the useful question is where the rule applies.
Our picks at a glance
FTMO, Apex Trader Funding, FundedNext. Each firm below accepts South African residents, and we’ve listed the rules that matter most for this use. Firm terms change often, so confirm details on the firm’s site before buying.
What to look for
Evaluation vs payouts. Some firms apply consistency rules only to funded payouts, others only to the challenge.
The percentage. A 50% best-day rule is far easier to meet than 25% or 35%.
What happens if you break it. Does the target rise, is the payout delayed, or does the account fail?

Trading from South Africa
Forex traders get the most liquidity during the London–New York overlap, roughly 14:00–18:00 SAST in the Northern summer and 15:00–19:00 in winter. US index futures are busiest after the New York cash open at 15:30 or 16:30 SAST. Payouts are income for SARS, usually declared through provisional tax: see prop firm tax in South Africa.
FAQ
Which prop firm has no consistency rule?
FTMO’s 2-Step has no consistency rule in either phase. Apex’s evaluation has none, though its funded payouts do.
What is a consistency rule?
A limit on how much of your total profit can come from one day or one trade, such as 40% or 50%.
What happens if I break a consistency rule?
Depending on the firm, your target rises, your payout is delayed until you trade more, or the payout is reduced.
Are consistency rules bad?
Not necessarily. They encourage steady risk-taking, but they penalise traders who make most of their profit on a few big days.
