Prop Firm Daily Drawdown Calculator

Daily loss limits end more challenges than anything else, and firms calculate them differently. Enter your firm’s rule and today’s numbers to see exactly where your account breaches today and how much room you have left.

Enter your numbers and press Calculate.

Two common ways firms calculate daily loss

From the initial balance. The allowance is a fixed amount, such as 5% of $100,000 = $5,000, subtracted from the day’s starting balance. FTMO’s 2-Step uses a limit based on the initial balance.

From the previous day’s balance. The allowance is a percentage of yesterday’s closing balance, so it grows slightly as your account grows. SabioTrade, for example, measures from the previous day’s end-of-day balance and includes floating losses.

Some firms use the higher of balance or equity at the start of the day. Check your firm’s exact wording and reset time, and read our guide to daily drawdown.

Worked example

Initial balance $100,000, a 5% limit on the initial balance, today’s starting balance $101,500. Your breach level is $101,500 − $5,000 = $96,500. With equity at $100,200, you have $3,700 of room left today. If your firm instead used today’s starting balance, the allowance would be $5,075 and the breach level $96,425.

FAQ

When does the daily loss limit reset?

It depends on the firm, often at midnight in the firm’s server time zone or at 5 PM New York time. Check your firm’s rules.

Is daily drawdown the same as maximum drawdown?

No. The daily limit resets each day; the maximum drawdown is the overall floor your account can never breach.
